When your immune system goes off balance, one of two things can happen. You may get sick more often because your immune system is too low. Or, it may become overactive and attack your own body, leading to autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto’s, Lupus, or Rheumatoid Arthritis.

The root cause of both can often be chronic inflammation — a process that can quietly build in your body for more than twenty years before symptoms appear.

As a functional medicine practitioner, I look for the triggers behind that inflammation. Sometimes they’re lifestyle-related, like not getting enough sleep, too little exercise, poor diet choices, or unmanaged stress. Sometimes they’re environmental — exposure to plastics, solvents, or heavy metals. And sometimes they’re linked to a genetic predisposition.

My approach is to identify these triggers and address them directly. That may mean targeted vitamin supplementation, chelation for heavy metals, improving vascular health, or lowering cholesterol.
