I want to share the facts about ivermectin and my clinical perspective. While ivermectin is widely known as an antiparasitic—commonly used for conditions like malaria—its potential antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and even anticancer properties are still being explored.
From the literature, we know that when taken at 0.2 mg per kg (typically twice daily for five days), ivermectin may help prevent COVID-19 if used before exposure—for example, if a household member just tested positive or after recent travel. However, large studies in Malaysia and Brazil found no significant benefit when ivermectin was given a week after infection. Timing and proper dosing appear to be key.
Beyond COVID-19, ivermectin has shown promise in treating asthma flares and rosacea though it does not have antibacterial properties. As for cancer prevention, research is ongoing, and we don’t yet have definitive answers.
As always, the best approach is to stay informed and make decisions based on the most up-to-date clinical evidence.
